Trekking to Tamang Heritage is an opportunity to discover the real beauty of rural mountain village of Nepal with unique culture and lifestyle of Tamangs which is one of the major ethnic groups in Nepal. Our itinerary for Tamang heritage trek is designed with the beautiful villages and viewpoints from the previously restricted areas of Langtang Region. It is a trek to the unexplored area of Langtang region where we can enjoy the majestic Himalayan view, locals and learn about their culture which goes back to hundreds of years. The craftsmanship, unique culture and customs, ancient Tibetan monasteries, beauty of rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, snow-capped peaks from Langtang, Ganesh and Manaslu range, local fort, and exquisite local architecture of the Tamang homes are the major highlights of this trek.
The trail we follow for is an exciting trekking route in Langtang Region which is culturally rich area, inhabited by the Tamangs. Tamang people are some of the warmest and most welcoming people in Nepal. The word “Tamang” originally, meant “Horse –trader”, which may very well have been their original vacation. Nowadays they earn their living, partly by farming, partly by hiring their service as porter to mountaineers. They are extremely sturdy and resistant. During the winter season, they spend much time weaving their characteristic grayish quilts and wide-sleeved woolen vests; other might paint Thang-kas. Dawa Dangbo Chhiju (in February), Chuwa Chhiju (November), Yarsang (early June), Dukpa Chhiju (August) and Lhosar (February) are the some of the major festivals celebrated by the Tamangs community in this region. Marriages are generally pre-arranged. There is no polyandry among Tamang as the case within the Sherpa communities. The dead are usually cremated on the top of the hill (may be a survival of a Tibetan tradition).
